2010 Lenten Newsletter*Flowers*Outreach*St LukeWA, ACW 125 in 2012*National WA,ACW125 in 2010
If you would like to make a donation towards Easter flowers in memory of a loved one, please call Diane La Rue at 253-6474 or place your contribution on the Offering Plate in an envelope marked “EASTER FLOWERS”. ======================================== UPCOMING ANNIVERSARY In 1885, Roberta Tiltins of Ottawa organized the first WA of the Anglican Church. Later (1965) the WA morphed into ACW. Through research conducted by Diocesan Life Membership Convener, Marilyn Schmidt, we have learned that a branch of the WA was organized at St. Luke’s in October, 1887. The first president was Mrs. F.F.W. Greene, first vice-president and treasurer was Mrs. Burden, second vice-president was Mrs. Plummer, and Mrs. Joseph Wilson was secretary for the first few months. The first money handed to the treasurer was a $10. bill donated by Mr. Henry Pilgrim on the day the branch was organized. We see, therefore, that in October, 2012, St. Luke’s WA/ACW will mark 125 years of women’s ministry at St. Luke’s. We would like to mark the occasion with something special. We have a copy of a WA cookbook from 1909 and have thought of creating a Heritage Cookbook that would incorporate pieces from that book with more up-to-date recipes. Is anyone interested in helping with such a project? We would love to hear from you! ================================================= When hospitalized, please take a moment to let the Dean know by contacting the Cathedral Office. You may leave a message on the answering machine outside of office hours or call the Dean at 575-3001. ========================================= OUTREACH PROJECTS The first Sunday of the month is Food Bank Sunday. Some suggested items are canned goods, soups, juices, spaghetti sauce, pasta, and cereal. Donations may be placed in the box at the back of the cathedral. John Muirhead delivers your donations to the Salvation Army Food Bank and has reported that the need in the community is great and supplies are low; therefore, we appeal to your generosity in helping those who are without! Thank you for your continued support! ============================================== Used Stamps...Please keep them coming. Used stamps support the work of Oxfam Canada, an international development agency which helps people help themselves. Money derived from the sale of stamps (plus donations, of course) is used for such overseas projects as helping to develop farms and other agriculture and water projects, as well as health care. CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS Please continue to bring in Campbell Soup Labels. The soup labels will now be used to purchase equipment for Camp Manitou.
ST. VINCENT PLACE SUPPER: Once every five to six weeks, volunteers from St. Luke’s and St. Matthew’s congregations provide a hot healthy meal to approximately 100 men, women, and children in our community. Denis Bowers arranges for the baked beans, give him a call (253-0678) if you would like to be added to the list. If you would like to provide frozen vegetables or coleslaw or would like to volunteer to help, call Marlene Trussler (254-5439). Your contributions are greatly appreciated!
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM (COMMUNITY KITCHEN): The Sunday closest to the middle of each month, September to June, we appeal for donations of milk, bread, fruit and veggies (carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes). These donations are used to provide snacks for the 30 to 40 children who attend this program. Thank you for contributing to this worthy cause. Contact Marlene Trussler (254-5439) for more info.
